Teynham area guide

Sitting nicely between Sittingbourne and Faversham, the village and civil parish of Teynham lies along the A2 in Kent. Included in Teynham is the hamlet of Conyer, on the inlet of the Swale, the channel that separates mainland Kent from the Isle of Sheppey.

Community

Teynham is a village that offers so much to its community. You'll find a Co-op and Londis store there, as well as the delicious Crispins Fish Bar, Lost Reptiles Pet Store and a great model shop too.
The village boasts its own dental surgery, Dr Meakin's practice, as well as A GP surgery, Veterinary practice and Stevens Pharmacy.
There is a community and village hall, which has a huge amount of outdoor green space attached to it. This is used frequently for events or parties. 

Properties in Teynham

Housing developments on the outskirts have added to the population of Teynham over recent years, but the village itself is well established and offers a diverse selection of housing choices, from flats to bungalows to terraced, detached or semi-detached. 

Teynham church

Long known as a church of early foundation, St. Mary's Church in Teynham is a 13th to 15th century structure that lies approximately 1.2 miles to the north-east of the village. Sitting on raised ground that was formally the western bank of the River Lynn, it has a great historical past. 


Transport links

With Teynham being a 10 minute drive to either Sittingbourne or Faversham, the M2 is not far away, meaning all major areas are well within reach. 
There are bus links throughout the village, meaning those who wish to do so, can travel to Faversham or Sittingbourne.
Teynham is lucky enough to possess its own railway station, with direct links to London and Dover, and easy access to the Isle of Sheppey or Whitstable and into Thanet. 


Where to go


The Dover Castle Inn
The Dover Castle Inn is a 17th century coaching inn, built around 1640. Once owned by the Lord of The Manor, it was sold to Shepherd and Neame in the 1700's. To this day, it is a popular place for locals to frequent, welcoming passers by along the way. 

The Swan public house 
This family run and newly refurbished pub in the heart of Teynham is a friendly place to go for a range of drinks. They also serve from a full menu of home cooked meals, served daily. 

Walk the Saxon Shore Way
Popular to many, the Saxon Shore Way passes along the coastline of the South East. It is an interesting historical walk with much to see and do along the way, and situated not far from Teynham. Enjoyed by many, there are various starting points and paces, meaning it is a widely suited walking route.


School

Teynham Parochial Church of England Primary School is the village's educational hub, providing excellent learning to primary age children, with a great Ofsted report.
