Space Savers: Using awkward space in your home to your advantage

Space Savers: Using awkward space in your home to your advantage

The majority of homes are cursed with awkward spaces that seem to never be able to be used for anything.

This leads to a feeling of wasted space in your home, one of the worst feelings of all. So, what can you do to make sure that you make the most of every inch in your home, even the spaces that could seem the most awkward to work with?

Think about the space behind the door

We always seem to think that the space behind doors is null and void, but we only ever really open and close our door a few times a day, the rest of the time that space is still there. There are plenty of ways that you can use the space behind your front door (not to mention other doors in your home). You could use it as storage for key items such as shoes or bags, or perhaps you could have a small table there which makes the ideal home for keys to live, letting you grab them as you leave.

Jazz up a small corner with decorations

Corners can be the hardest space to work within your home, not only will you struggle to find storage or furniture that is going to fit in there, but you could end blocking up the rest of the house when you do that. It is a much better idea to take a small corner and make it look beautiful, rather than trying to use it. Hang up some bottles, baskets, cages, pots, anything that takes your fancy, not only will it brighten up the room, but it can actually make a feature of what you otherwise felt was a negative space.

Utilise under the stairs

For many people, the underneath of the stairs is a scary place, however, it can actually be an incredibly useful spot for storage. Think about what could live there, perhaps shoes, perhaps books, perhaps make it a “cleaning equipment cupboard” the main thing to do is to make sure that you use the space and free up space in the rest of your house too.

Change a nook into an office

More and more of us are working from home at some point, which means that the home office has become all the more important to include in your home. Not sure that you have any space for a home office? Well, the beauty of modern technology means that nowadays home offices don’t need to be huge spaces. You could even use that annoying nook in your home as a spot for your home office, all you will need is a small desk and a chair and you are pretty much good to go.

As you can see, that awkward spot in your home doesn’t always have to be that. You can try and transform it, you can try and make it better and you can try and use every single part of your house to really make it a space that you can love and be proud of.
