Marking 80 Years Since D Day

Marking 80 Years Since D Day

Our seasonal windows on Sittingbourne's high street have become a popular feature in town, but with this the latest on may be the most special one yet

We have been decorating window to spread some cheer to passersby in Sittingbourne for some time now. The bright and cheery designs have become quite the talk of the town, with residents and visitors alike stopping by to say how much they like them, or to ask what the next design will be.

Up until now, the designs have been purely seasonal with themes such as Halloween, Christmas, Valentine’s and Easter. However, our latest window is something a little different.

With 6th June this year marking 80 years since the D-Day landings, the team at Harrisons wanted commemorate the date in an uplifting, yet respectful way. So we collaborated with Cadell from Studio Lockington again to come up with a “Fun and Fancy 40’s themed window”

Cadell explains, “When designing Harrison’s D-Day 80th anniversary window, I really wanted to capture the aesthetic of the 1940’s in a celebratory way. I loved creating the fun 1940’s pin up girls in the colours of the Union Jack, with skinny waists and huge hair curls. In primary colours with black outlines, the figures really stand out to the passers-by”

“In contrast, handwritten on the number ‘80’ are the names of the beaches from the D-Day landings and faint shadows of planes and boats in the background, a poignant reminder of what took place on that day”

The feedback we get from our window designs is fantastic, but the reaction to this one has been incredible and entirely positive. We think it's down to the combination of the vintage theme, bold characters and colours that catch the eye.

Then you are drawn in to the moving tribute of all five beaches, Utah, Omaha, Gold, Juno and Sword where the landings during D-Day took place, being handwritten into the ‘80’, a stark reminder of what took place in 1944.

So what do you think? all the while people enjoy Cadell's amazing artwork, we will continue to decorate our window.

If you’re hoping to be in your new home by Christmas, time is running out. With UK sale timelines now topping 200 days from listing to completion, September may be your last chance to start the process. Here’s what you need to know before it’s too late…

If your home has been on the market for 8–12 weeks without selling, you’re probably feeling frustrated. You’ve tidied the house, kept it spotless for viewings, and waited for the right buyer but nothing’s happening.

Autumn may not be the first season that comes to mind when people think about moving, but it can be a surprisingly strong time to sell. Buyers who are still active at this stage of the year tend to be serious about completing before Christmas or the new year. With the right preparation, your home can stand out and attract motivated buyers even as the nights draw in.

Selling your home should be exciting, not stressful. Yet too many sellers across Sittingbourne, Sheppey and Faversham find themselves stuck on the market, watching weeks slip by with no serious offers.
